A Century Kitchen, Uncovered

A 1920s century home finally has the kitchen it always deserved — functional, beautifully layered, and looking like it never left.

Our clients fell in love with their century home the moment they walked through the door. Except for the kitchen, where a 2000s-era update left it completely disconnected from the rest of the home's beautiful woodwork, built-ins, and original trim. What they wanted was simple to say and harder to execute: a kitchen that felt like it had always been there, with the charm of the 1920s and every modern convenience tucked in alongside it.

The solution none of us saw coming was the one that made everything click. Instead of opening the room up and chasing an island, we converted the space into a galley kitchen with a dedicated baking pantry for him, and a beverage station with a mug wall for her. A back hallway addition brought something they didn't have before: a side entry mudroom, daily storage, and a dedicated spot for the dog. Every inch earned its place.

The details are where this kitchen comes alive. A client-found headboard and footboard became the statement range hood — custom fabricated and completely one of a kind. Wine-colored cabinetry, teal pantry walls and ceiling, accent wallcovering, a low-contrast checkerboard floor, brass hardware, and a vintage-inspired induction range all layer together into something that feels collected rather than designed. The heirloom tile from their very first consultation — the one that inspired the whole design — found its home in the pantry, exactly where it belongs.

The result is a kitchen that looks like it was always there — 1920s character intact, every modern convenience working quietly beneath the surface. Beautiful and hardworking in equal measure, it finally matches the home it lives in. That's the standard we hold every project to, and this one delivered.
